The Water and Sewerage Agency of Oslo Municipality (Vann- og avløpsetaten (Oslovann), VAV) has been awarded a SmartOslo grant from Oslo municipality (Oslo kommune) for a project aimed at optimizing pipeline inspection. VaV will join forces with Equanostic to demonstrate how EquaPipe can determine the most effective rehabilitation methods for aging pipes. This approach provides a more cost-effective and environmentally sustainable alternative to replacing old infrastructure by restoring existing pipes through relining instead of extensive excavation.
The project is an extension of the collaboration with Oslo VAV following the major water leak at Carl Berner in February 2023. Contractor Pipeliner will install a certified drinking water liner, while Equanostic will assess the inner geometry of the pipeline. This step is necessary since the liner is made to measure and these older pipes often lack proper documentation.
SmartOslo is Oslo municipality’s testing and development funding programme focusing on innovation, sustainability and smart solutions, that align with the city council’s goals for digitization and environmental progress.
